Commercial awareness is a much used term and creating a a talent pool that is seen as commercially aware is an aspiration for many organisations. Yet what is it?
Commercial awareness or commerciality is similar to terms such as ‘innovation’ and ‘creative’ in that it means different things to different people and is heavily context driven. For this reason there are many definitions around, often which link to the idea that commercial awareness is about seeing the ‘big picture’. Whilst this is a valid link, from a business perspective it is too superficial to add the value aspired to.
Using our considerable practitioner experience we have developed a framework and models that get beneath the top level definition.
Depending on the desired outcomes, our framework is scalable and can be deployed though e-learning, workshops, coaching, or opportunity development. It can be used to help set the right mindset, and provide a framework and models to support individuals and teams becoming more systematic in their approach to commercial awareness. When these are blended with relevant experience it accelerates the level of commercial awareness.
After all, being commercially aware isn’t something that you can label yourself, it only becomes real when others recognise it of you.
Our commercial awareness offering can be blended with up-skilling in the area of relational contracting which is complementary and also leverages our framework and models.
Our approach to commercial awareness is focused on business organisations, however, we also have an offering specifically tailored for professional services firms which can be found by clicking here.
